Women's motocross: getting started without a clutch

You find motocross fascinating but don't quite dare yet? Then you are not alone: on every course day there are female motocross riders on the track for the first time. For them, for beginners and for children there is a simple, flat track for the first attempts. There you sit on a small motocross bike without a clutch and can concentrate entirely on the throttle, braking and balance.

In the first laps a coach rides on the back of your bike and gives you constant tips. Once you feel it is working and the coach sees that you have the bike under control, you carry on alone. But he stays close by and helps you improve your technique with further tips.

Motocross for women step by step: from a small to a bigger bike

Once things go well on the small bike, you switch to a slightly bigger model, and the coach explains how to use the clutch. Stage by stage you move on. By the evening you are riding confidently and motivated on a bike that suits your height, over the next bigger track. In the MX-Academy's experience, women often learn quickly in terms of coordination and listen well; that way many quickly develop a fine feel for the motocross bike.

For smaller and lighter female riders, the MX-Academy has smaller Honda CRFs, such as the CRF125 or CRF150. The protective gear also comes in women's sizes: motocross boots, gloves, knee guards, chest protector, goggles and helmet. That way everything fits from head to toe, and you can concentrate fully on riding.

Motorcycle riding for women: what you need to bring

You need neither a driving licence nor experience: the tracks are on private training grounds, not on public roads. The MX-Academy provides everything that protects you, from helmet to boots. From home you only bring a few things that make the course day more pleasant for you.

Would you like to bring your daughter or son? There are small bikes for children from age 4; find out more under Kids motocross. Prices are the same for everyone, whether woman, man or child; the only thing that matters is the choice between rental and your own gear.

A course day lasts 6–8 hours in total, including registration, gear and theory. The hours shown are the available track time including the breaks and instruction you need, not pure time in the saddle: motocross is anaerobic, breaks are part of it – and that is exactly when the coaches give you more tips and tricks. For teenagers and adults, each of these days is the recommended taster course, because it gives you a real impression of the sport and shows your progress. Kids, teenagers, women and adults all pay the same; the only difference is whether you rent or bring your own gear. With rental: a Honda bike in your size, protective gear, coaching and basic course costs. With your own gear: coaching, track hire and basic course – provided you can already ride on your own, otherwise extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50) is added.
