Dirt bike riding at the MX-Academy: courses by difficulty level, tracks for every ability and coaches who accompany you from the very first metre to targeted programmes for advanced riders.

Dirt Bike Riding
Most participants have never sat on a dirt bike before. Even so, by the end of the first day many can already put into practice what they have heard about the basic techniques. That is down to the structure: experienced professionals first explain in theory what matters, then you go straight onto the track and apply what you have learnt immediately. During the breaks there are further tips. Riding takes place in groups that match your riding ability.
Coaching is compulsory for first-time participants. Riding experience is nice but not a requirement, and you don't need a driving licence either. A little courage to get on is something you have to bring yourself; the MX-Academy takes care of the rest, and your gear is fitted on site. The day course with rental includes the following:

The courses are divided into different levels of difficulty. That way everyone feels challenged but never overwhelmed, and the day should end with a sense of achievement. If you come several times, you will find new training opportunities on every track to further refine your dirt bike technique and build on what you have learnt.
For advanced riders who have mastered the basic techniques, there are targeted training programmes on individual aspects of dirt bike riding. A professional rider helps you work out an individual training plan tailored to your needs. That way you work on exactly the points that matter most for your dirt bike riding right now.

Riding takes place on the site of the MX-Academy, listed in the National Sports Facilities Concept NASAK of Swiss Olympics. You have four tracks to choose from; children and beginners have their own. Each is tailored to a particular ability, so that everyone finds one they enjoy. The course day starts at the MX-Academy shop; the track is about 0.9 km away as the crow flies, in the Gishalde area.
You can also turn the day into a family outing: children from age 4, teenagers and adults ride in one place, each in their own group. Women get smaller bikes and smaller gear if needed, children small automatic dirt bikes that are easier to handle. Everyone pays the same. The only difference is whether you rent or come with your own bike and your own gear.

About 45 min from Konstanz, about 1 hr from Rottweil, about 2 hrs from Stuttgart, about 4 hrs from Nuremberg: that is how long the drive to Schlatt TG takes. For journeys like these, a full course day is the best fit. On Wednesdays there are 3.5 hrs, on Saturdays 4 hrs of track time, breaks and instruction included. Including registration, theory and putting on your gear, the day comes to 6–8 hours.
Without a car, take bus 847 and get off at the “Schlatt TG, Mettschlatt” stop; from there it is about 70 m to the MX-Academy shop. If you are coming from far away, plan your journey for the day before, so you are fresh on Saturday. You can find out which dates are available and how to sign up in the motocross events calendar of the MX-Academy.
Meeting point and sat-nav address: the MX-Academy Shop, Hauptstrasse 8, Schlatt TG.
At the shop reception you sign in for your course day.
You get a helmet, goggles, chest protector, knee guards, boots and gloves in your size – and a Honda CRF that suits you.
Before you start, the coaches calmly explain how riding off-road works.
On the track, riding and breaks alternate – with more tips and tricks from the coaches.
3.5 hrs track time incl. breaks and instruction
4 hrs track time incl. breaks and instruction
A course day lasts 6–8 hours in total, including registration, gear and theory. The hours shown are the available track time including the breaks and instruction you need, not pure time in the saddle: motocross is anaerobic, breaks are part of it – and that is exactly when the coaches give you more tips and tricks. For teenagers and adults, each of these days is the recommended taster course, because it gives you a real impression of the sport and shows your progress. Kids, teenagers, women and adults all pay the same; the only difference is whether you rent or bring your own gear. With rental: a Honda bike in your size, protective gear, coaching and basic course costs. With your own gear: coaching, track hire and basic course – provided you can already ride on your own, otherwise extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50) is added.
