For beginners with no previous experience
The motocross taster course is your way in with no previous experience: a Honda beginner bike, protective gear and coaching are included. For small children one hour is enough; teenagers and adults get much more out of a whole course day.

Motocross Taster Course
At the MX-Academy, the term taster course does not stand for a specific duration; it covers several variants. For small children aged 4 to 6, the taster hour with 1 hr of track time including breaks is the right fit, because after an hour they are often tired and no longer properly focused. This variant is only available every other Wednesday, with bike, protective gear, coaching, basic course and track hire for €179 (CHF 165), non-binding.
Teenagers and adults are better off with more time: 3.5 hours of track time on Wednesday, 4 hours on Saturday, breaks and instruction included. Only then do you experience what the sport really feels like and how quickly you make progress. A day course is therefore also a taster course, just with more laps and more tips from the coaches. By the way, you really do need the breaks, because motocross is exhausting.

In the beginners' course, you start from zero. After the theory, you practise the basics with your coach until you can ride safely on your own. The first time, coaching is always part of the course. The reason is simple: in motocross, you only get faster with better technique, more balance and a finer feel for all the controls – never with more strength or more risk. The programme includes, among other things:
Many people first look for a motocross trial lesson before deciding on the sport. That is exactly what the motocross taster course is for: you need neither a bike nor gear nor a driving licence, just long trousers and sturdy shoes. If you like it, you book more course days or move on to Motocross training, where the coaches work specifically on your weak points.

Hardly anyone is too old for a motocross taster course: the oldest participants at the MX-Academy were 74. Women and men ride in their own groups, divided by ability, and petite women get smaller bikes and gear in the right size. So you start at your own pace, without having to keep up with experienced riders.
For adults who work during the week, Saturday is ideal: 4 hours of track time including breaks, with catering if you wish. Even if you already have experience on other motorbikes, you need the coaching on your first visit, because motocross requires its own technique. After that, you decide for yourself whether to continue on a rental bike or bring your own bike later.
In the motocross beginner course, you sit on a bike built for getting started. The Honda F version – F stands for Family – comes as the CRF50F, CRF110F, CRF125F and CRF250F. These models are modern, have fuel injection and electric start from the CRF110F upwards, run quietly and in an environmentally friendly way, and were developed for off-road beginners. The R models, R for Racing, on the other hand, are built for competition.
Which model you get depends on your height and ability. The youngest ride the CRF50; as they grow, the CRF70, CRF110, CRF125 and CRF150 follow, while teenagers and adults ride the CRF250. Helmet, goggles, chest protector, knee guards, gloves and boots are ready in sizes from children's to XXL and are fitted on site.
From the Singen and Konstanz area, the journey is short: Singen is around 30 min (22 km) away, Konstanz around 45 min (48 km) and Tuttlingen around 55 min (55 km), calculated by car without traffic. Your first stop is the MX-Academy Shop, Hauptstrasse 8, in Schlatt TG. Here you check in at reception and put on your gear before the theory begins.
If you come from further away, the taster course as a whole course day is much more worthwhile than the taster hour. With rental, Wednesday costs €390 (CHF 360) and Saturday €444 (CHF 410). All prices are non-binding and subject to change. The Motocross events calendar shows the next available dates, and registration is online.
Meeting point and sat-nav address: the MX-Academy Shop, Hauptstrasse 8, Schlatt TG.
At the shop reception you sign in for your course day.
You get a helmet, goggles, chest protector, knee guards, boots and gloves in your size – and a Honda CRF that suits you.
Before you start, the coaches calmly explain how riding off-road works.
On the track, riding and breaks alternate – with more tips and tricks from the coaches.
The time shown is the available track time including the breaks and instruction you need, not pure time in the saddle; with everything included, the course day lasts 6–8 hrs. Motocross is anaerobic, so plenty of breaks are part of it.
* The own-gear price applies to anyone who can already ride on their own – if you can't yet, add extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50).
