Drifting · sliding · braking into corners
Dirt track and flat track start with drifting. At the MX-Academy, you train it on tracks with a dirt-track-like surface – from scratch as a beginner or in a targeted way as an advanced rider.

Dirt Track and Flat Track
Whether your focus in dirt track is on fun or on safety: neither works without clean drifting. Before you can practise the drift in a targeted way, you need a solid basic technique, full control of the bike and a good feel for how to keep the motorcycle balanced. Only then does sliding turn into a controlled drift that you refine step by step.
Dirt track training is not permitted in many places, even though the sport is becoming more and more popular. At the MX-Academy, you either start right at the beginning or build on what you can already do. You only get faster and better through riding technique – not through willingness to take risks, more strength or courage alone.
For drift training, the MX-Academy chooses tracks whose ground feels similar to a dirt track oval. Everyone is challenged there, nobody is overwhelmed. You ride motocross bikes from Honda's off-road range; thanks to the different model sizes, women and children can also take part in a course. Children can join the courses from as young as 4.
If you already have your own bike and want to control it even better, you can take part with it on any course day. The lower price with your own bike is for everyone who already rides unaccompanied; if you can't do that yet, you add extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50) (non-binding).

All participants are divided into groups according to their ability, so each group can train individually. In the flat track course, advanced riders and pros sharpen their feel for their motorcycle. The focus is on the braking drift and the acceleration drift, which you need to be able to use deliberately in flat track. That way, everyone takes a few new tricks home at the end, whether on a motocross or an enduro bike.
If you are new, the coaches introduce you to the sport of motocross from the very first exercise. Especially at the beginning, it pays to be patient: before drifting is on the agenda, beginners need to have these basics in place:

Dirt track and flat track are like all coordination sports: adopting the correct posture right from the start is much easier than unlearning a wrong position later on. Advanced techniques are also rarely learned in one day; they need constant training. If you want to work on your drift regularly, you come back and build on what you have learned, course day after course day.
You can reach Schlatt TG in around 30 minutes from Singen and around 55 minutes from Tuttlingen. From Stuttgart it is around 2 hrs, from Frankfurt around 3 hrs 45 min and from Düsseldorf around 5 hrs 40 min. If you are travelling that far, it is best to plan for Saturday with 4 hrs of track time, breaks included, and arrive the day before. Including registration, theory and gear, a full course day takes 6–8 hours; the meeting point is the MX-Academy Shop. Without a car, bus 847 takes you to “Schlatt TG, Mettschlatt”, from where it is just around 70 m.
Meeting point and sat-nav address: the MX-Academy Shop, Hauptstrasse 8, Schlatt TG.
At the shop reception you sign in for your course day.
You get a helmet, goggles, chest protector, knee guards, boots and gloves in your size – and a Honda CRF that suits you.
Before you start, the coaches calmly explain how riding off-road works.
On the track, riding and breaks alternate – with more tips and tricks from the coaches.
3.5 hrs track time incl. breaks and instruction
4 hrs track time incl. breaks and instruction
A course day lasts 6–8 hours in total, including registration, gear and theory. The hours shown are the available track time including the breaks and instruction you need, not pure time in the saddle: motocross is anaerobic, breaks are part of it – and that is exactly when the coaches give you more tips and tricks. For teenagers and adults, each of these days is the recommended taster course, because it gives you a real impression of the sport and shows your progress. Kids, teenagers, women and adults all pay the same; the only difference is whether you rent or bring your own gear. With rental: a Honda bike in your size, protective gear, coaching and basic course costs. With your own gear: coaching, track hire and basic course – provided you can already ride on your own, otherwise extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50) is added.
