Off-road technique for supermoto riders
Supermoto training off-road: at the MX-Academy you learn basic techniques, drifting, braking and jumping on loose ground – with your own supermoto or a rental bike.

Supermoto Riding
In supermoto, on most tracks it is probably the off-road section that makes the biggest gap between a top rider and the average. Off-road is an excellent place to train control of the bike, and this is exactly where the MX-Academy courses for supermoto riders come in. The programme includes jumps, drifts and the other advanced techniques you need for this.
There is also a tangible advantage for every supermoto training session: off-road, the grip limit and speed are significantly lower than on tarmac. That is why you learn drifting and correct braking more easily and more cheaply, and a mistake has far fewer consequences. So you practise exactly the manoeuvres that count in the off-road section, with significantly less risk.
All advanced techniques build on the basic riding techniques, which is why these have to be perfect first. Training takes place in different groups so that beginners and advanced riders each practise at their own level. Newcomers always train with coaching; that is what the MX-Academy requires. You don't need a driving licence for it because the courses take place on private grounds.
So you can get started even without any supermoto experience and lay the foundation on which drifting and jumping are later built. If you want to learn supermoto, you therefore start not with speed, but with clean technique. The important basic techniques include the following points, among others:

Once the basics are in place, it is time for the more demanding supermoto techniques. Such techniques are rarely learnt in a single day; if you want to stick with it more intensively, you will find the right continuation in Motocross training. Behind the MX-Academy is founder and owner Chris Möckli, two-time European motocross champion; the coaching is done by his team of experienced motocross riders and professionals.
The professional MX-Academy coaches build the techniques on the foundation you have laid beforehand. Each technique is first explained and then practised on the track, with breaks and further tips in between. The supermoto drift training programme includes:

You can come with your own supermoto bike or borrow a motocross bike from the MX-Academy. The complete gear can also be rented, and that is worth it: supermoto gear is only partly suitable for proper off-road training. If everything is rented, i.e. bike, protective clothing and coaching, you pay €390 (CHF 360) on Wednesday, non-binding.
If you come with your own bike, the cheaper course day requires riding experience of your own. Anyone who cannot yet ride alone adds extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50), non-binding. Come to the course day in long trousers and sturdy footwear. You can get further pieces of gear later in the MX-Academy motocross shop.

From Freiburg you drive about 1 hr 40 min to Schlatt TG, from Mannheim about 3 hrs 5 min and from Munich about 3 hrs 20 min. From Vorarlberg it is about 1 hr 40 min from Feldkirch, and from Innsbruck about 3 hrs 30 min. For journeys like these, the full day course is worthwhile: on Saturday you have 4 hrs on the track, on Wednesday 3.5 hrs, breaks included in each case. You can register at the MX-Academy shop at Hauptstrasse 8.
Meeting point and sat-nav address: the MX-Academy Shop, Hauptstrasse 8, Schlatt TG.
At the shop reception you sign in for your course day.
You get a helmet, goggles, chest protector, knee guards, boots and gloves in your size – and a Honda CRF that suits you.
Before you start, the coaches calmly explain how riding off-road works.
On the track, riding and breaks alternate – with more tips and tricks from the coaches.
3.5 hrs track time incl. breaks and instruction
4 hrs track time incl. breaks and instruction
A course day lasts 6–8 hours in total, including registration, gear and theory. The hours shown are the available track time including the breaks and instruction you need, not pure time in the saddle: motocross is anaerobic, breaks are part of it – and that is exactly when the coaches give you more tips and tricks. For teenagers and adults, each of these days is the recommended taster course, because it gives you a real impression of the sport and shows your progress. Kids, teenagers, women and adults all pay the same; the only difference is whether you rent or bring your own gear. With rental: a Honda bike in your size, protective gear, coaching and basic course costs. With your own gear: coaching, track hire and basic course – provided you can already ride on your own, otherwise extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50) is added.
