Balance · timing · cornering technique
In the MX-Academy's lean angle training you practise corners where speeds are lower and a light bike is more forgiving of mistakes: on loose ground off-road, with a Honda and protective gear, in a group that matches your ability.

Lean Angle Training
On uneven, slippery ground you only keep your balance if you work precisely, and you have to apply throttle, brake and clutch very finely. That is exactly why riding off-road teaches you to really control a motorcycle. And off-road it is easier to explore the limit, with less risk involved. Precise balance and exact control are therefore the first stage of lean angle training; the advanced techniques follow once this foundation is in place.
The more lean angle and speed you want, the finer your technique, coordination and timing have to be, because every extra bit of speed leaves you less time to act. Off-road you ride more slowly, so the time window is bigger. This lets you repeat every movement calmly until it happens automatically.

Lean angle cannot be forced with courage, and taking more risk won't get you a single centimetre deeper into the corner. If your speed is greater than your control – in other words, your riding technique – you will end up on the ground sooner or later. That is why at the MX-Academy you learn the techniques of the sport of motocross in every detail. Lean angle and speed come from mastered technique, not from a willingness to take risks or from strength.
For the training, riders are divided into groups, and the professional coaches analyse each person individually. During the breaks, which are a fixed part of motocross, you get tips and tricks that you try out straight away on the next lap. That way your lean angle grows with your technique, lap after lap.

Balance and lean angle exercises are easier on a light, nimble MX-Academy off-road motorcycle, because it is much more agile and far more forgiving of mistakes. Honda Switzerland supports the MX-Academy, which is why the Honda off-road models are ready at the school; for smaller women there are smaller and lighter bikes. Once the technique works on the nimble bike, you then apply the same movements on your own motorcycle.
If you feel up to it, you get on your own enduro motorcycle right from the start. The course day then costs €163 (CHF 150) on Wednesday or €195 (CHF 180) on Saturday. Requirement: you can already ride on your own, otherwise extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50) is due. All prices are non-binding and subject to change.

Short distances make it easy: by car, Singen is around 30 minutes from Schlatt TG, Tuttlingen around 55 minutes and Rottweil around 1 hour. From Ulm it takes around 2 hrs 20 min, from Karlsruhe around 2 hrs 30 min. From Vorarlberg, for example from Bregenz, allow around 1 hr 35 min. All times are without traffic. So if you are looking for lean angle training near Singen, you can be here in half an hour.
The full day course is well worth it, with 3.5 hours of track time on Wednesday or 4 hours on Saturday, including breaks and instruction. With a rental bike, protective gear and coaching you pay €390 (CHF 360) or €444 (CHF 410) respectively (non-binding). For even more technique at an advanced level, the MX-Academy motocross team is the next step.
Meeting point and sat-nav address: the MX-Academy Shop, Hauptstrasse 8, Schlatt TG.
At the shop reception you sign in for your course day.
You get a helmet, goggles, chest protector, knee guards, boots and gloves in your size – and a Honda CRF that suits you.
Before you start, the coaches calmly explain how riding off-road works.
On the track, riding and breaks alternate – with more tips and tricks from the coaches.
3.5 hrs track time incl. breaks and instruction
4 hrs track time incl. breaks and instruction
A course day lasts 6–8 hours in total, including registration, gear and theory. The hours shown are the available track time including the breaks and instruction you need, not pure time in the saddle: motocross is anaerobic, breaks are part of it – and that is exactly when the coaches give you more tips and tricks. For teenagers and adults, each of these days is the recommended taster course, because it gives you a real impression of the sport and shows your progress. Kids, teenagers, women and adults all pay the same; the only difference is whether you rent or bring your own gear. With rental: a Honda bike in your size, protective gear, coaching and basic course costs. With your own gear: coaching, track hire and basic course – provided you can already ride on your own, otherwise extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50) is added.
