Schedule, track time and requirements for your first course day.
No. Even with no experience at all, you ride motocross for the first time under professional guidance. On the course with rental, the bike, gear and coaches are included.
You arrive at the MX-Academy Shop, check in and collect your gear. A detailed theory session follows, then you head out onto the track, interrupted again and again by breaks in which the coaches show you additional tips and tricks.
Track time is 3.5 hours on Wednesday and 4 hours on Saturday, with breaks and instruction counted in. Add check-in, theory and kitting out, and you spend 6 to 8 hours at the MX-Academy.
In motocross you are working in the anaerobic zone, with a heart rate of around 160 to 210. That is not possible without regular recovery, and the coaches use these breaks to explain your next learning step.
Yes. Taster course is the umbrella term: 1 hour is better suited to children, while for teenagers and adults the MX-Academy recommends 3.5 hours on Wednesday or 4 hours on Saturday.
Yes. On your first visit, coaching is a fixed part of the course, so that you build up the basic techniques cleanly and step by step.
A single course day is enough for the basic techniques. In the MX-Academy's experience, you will be riding safely and smoothly after around 10 to 20 training sessions with professional guidance.
No, not for any of the training sessions. The MX-Academy trains exclusively on private grounds away from public roads.

From what age children can start and which bikes they ride.
At the MX-Academy, children start from the age of 4. The oldest participants are 74 years old.
For the youngest, the taster course with 1 hour of track time is the right choice, because many children are tired and no longer able to concentrate afterwards. It takes place every second Wednesday.
Depending on their height, children ride a CRF150, CRF125, CRF110, CRF70 or, for the very youngest, the CRF50 from Honda. From their teenage years, they move up to the CRF250.
Yes. Of the 4 motocross tracks at the site, one is laid out as a separate track for kids and beginners.
No. Whether child, teenager, woman or adult: everyone pays the same. The only difference is whether you rent the bike and gear or use your own gear.

What a course day costs. All prices are non-binding and subject to change.
With bike, protective gear, coaching and the basic course fee, Wednesday costs €390 (CHF 360) and Saturday €444 (CHF 410), non-binding. Saturday with catering: €471 (CHF 435).
With your own bike and gear, you pay €163 (CHF 150) on Wednesday and €195 (CHF 180) on Saturday, non-binding. These prices assume that you can already ride independently; otherwise you add the extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50).
The taster course with 1 hour of track time including breaks costs €179 (CHF 165), all inclusive (non-binding). It is intended mainly for children.
The motocross training day course costs €195 (CHF 180), and you can add rental gear as an option (non-binding).
For advanced riders there is enduro training on Thursdays for €206 (CHF 190), non-binding. You can only take part with your own bike.
There are no fixed prices for corporate events, team building events and groups; here it is price on request. For a quote, get in touch at info@mx-academy.ch.
What you bring yourself and what you can rent on site.
Long trousers and sturdy shoes – that is all you need. The MX-Academy provides the bike and protective gear as rental equipment.
You get a helmet and goggles, boots and gloves, plus a chest protector and knee guards, in all sizes from children's sizes to XXL.
This includes a motocross helmet and goggles, boots, gloves, knee guards or knee braces, motocross trousers and a protector jacket with back, chest and elbow protection. A neck brace is optional.
The MX-Academy recommends a Honda F version such as the CRF50F, CRF110F, CRF125F or CRF250F. F stands for Family, R for Racing and therefore for competition.
Yes. The rental bikes are Honda CRFs, both beginner models with F and competition bikes with R.
Yes. Provided you already ride independently, you book the course day with your own gear. If you do not have this experience yet, you add the extra coaching.
A modern 250cc four-stroke motocross bike weighs around 108 kg with a full tank, a 450 about 8 kg more.
Useful facts about the sport.
Yes. Motocross is one of the most physically demanding sports, because strength, stamina, coordination and reactions are all required at the same time. For leisure riders, a normal level of fitness is enough.
What matters is how you train: with full protective gear, a suitable bike and techniques that build on each other under guidance. It becomes risky if you jump before the basic technique is in place.
MX is the abbreviation for motocross. Moto-X and cross are also common, although Moto-X tends to be used for freestyle motocross.
The basic technique is the same for both. In motocross, jumping techniques matter more; in enduro it is more about balance, for example over tree trunks or on steep climbs.
At FIM events the average speed may be no more than 50 km/h. Top speeds can sometimes be over 100 km/h.
Yes, motocross suits women just as well as men. What matters is technique, not strength.
The Swiss federations are FMS and SAM. For official races you need a racing licence from one of these federations.
No, quads are not currently part of the programme. Instead, the MX-Academy recommends that you try motocross, for example on a taster course.

Where the course starts, when it takes place and how you book.
The meeting point is the MX-Academy Shop, Hauptstrasse 8, 8252 Schlatt TG. The track in the Gishalde area is around 0.9 km away as the crow flies.
Singen is around 22 km away, which is about 30 minutes by car. From Stuttgart you drive around 172 km, which takes about 2 hours, in each case without traffic.
From Munich the driving time to Schlatt TG is around 3 hrs 20 min, and from Frankfurt around 3 hrs 45 min. For this distance, a full day course is worthwhile.
Day courses run on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and enduro training for advanced riders on Thursdays. You will find the exact dates in the events calendar.
You book online in the MX-Academy events calendar, where the available courses and events are listed.
Yes. Bus 847 takes you to “Schlatt TG, Mettschlatt”, and from there it is around 70 m on foot to the shop.
A gift voucher remains valid for two years. It can only be ordered online, and you receive the PDF straight away by email. Value vouchers: €22 (CHF 20), €54 (CHF 50) or €108 (CHF 100), non-binding.
3.5 hrs track time incl. breaks and instruction
4 hrs track time incl. breaks and instruction
A course day lasts 6–8 hours in total, including registration, gear and theory. The hours shown are the available track time including the breaks and instruction you need, not pure time in the saddle: motocross is anaerobic, breaks are part of it – and that is exactly when the coaches give you more tips and tricks. For teenagers and adults, each of these days is the recommended taster course, because it gives you a real impression of the sport and shows your progress. Kids, teenagers, women and adults all pay the same; the only difference is whether you rent or bring your own gear. With rental: a Honda bike in your size, protective gear, coaching and basic course costs. With your own gear: coaching, track hire and basic course – provided you can already ride on your own, otherwise extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50) is added.
Euro = guide price based on the ECB reference rate of 23.10.2026 (€1 = 0.9227 CHF), updated daily; courses are priced in CHF. All prices are non-binding and subject to change.
