Basic techniques · no clutch at first
In motorcycle training for beginners on the MX-Academy's private grounds, you learn everything from scratch: posture, controls, vision and balance – first on a motorcycle without a clutch and with no driving licence at all.

Motorcycle Training for Beginners
Motorcycle training for beginners does not start with speed, but with the basics. At the MX-Academy, you first practise the correct posture and the right seating position. Then you learn to operate the controls: throttle, brakes and later the clutch. On top of that come vision technique and balance, because if you look in the right place and sit correctly, it is much easier to keep the motorcycle balanced. Practice takes place on the private grounds in Schlatt TG, with no traffic and no driving licence.
If you understand the riding positions and can apply them, you feel safer on the motorcycle, have it under better control and trust it more. That is exactly what the beginner motorcycle course is about: by the evening you know why you sit the way you do and where you look, and you can put it into practice yourself. You will need this foundation later for every further technique, whether in corners, on whoops or in sand.

Clutch, throttle and balance all at once – for newcomers that is a lot to handle. That is why, in the beginner motorcycle course, you can learn all the basics on a motorcycle without a clutch first. This lets you concentrate fully on posture, throttle and balance. Only once that is in place do you practise using the clutch. The MX-Academy considers this sequence the easiest way to get into motorcycling.
For the first laps, a coach rides on the bike behind you until you can ride safely on your own. The beginner motorcycles are Honda F models such as the CRF110F, CRF125F or CRF250F: with fuel injection, electric start and a quiet engine, built for getting started off-road. Every size is available, from kids' bikes to models for adults, including suitable motorcycles for smaller women.

The motorcycle training takes place in groups divided by ability. Four motocross tracks are available; newcomers start on the separate kids' and beginners' track and only move on to more demanding terrain later. The professional coaches respond to each participant individually and stay with them: between laps, during the breaks, they give you specific tips for the next lap. Coaching is compulsory for first-time participants.
You can also take the course on your own bike. If you bring your own bike and gear, you pay €163 (CHF 150) on Wednesday or €195 (CHF 180) on Saturday. The condition for this price: you can already ride on your own. If you are not there yet, extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50) is added. All prices are non-binding and subject to change.

4 hrs track time incl. breaks and instruction
A course day lasts 6–8 hours in total, including registration, gear and theory. The hours shown are the available track time including the breaks and instruction you need, not pure time in the saddle: motocross is anaerobic, breaks are part of it – and that is exactly when the coaches give you more tips and tricks. For teenagers and adults, each of these days is the recommended taster course, because it gives you a real impression of the sport and shows your progress. Kids, teenagers, women and adults all pay the same; the only difference is whether you rent or bring your own gear. With rental: a Honda bike in your size, protective gear, coaching and basic course costs. With your own gear: coaching, track hire and basic course – provided you can already ride on your own, otherwise extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50) is added.
