BMX and motocross · no driving licence needed
BMX riding and motocross have a lot in common: jumps, balance and coordination. At the MX-Academy, you transfer your skills to a 40 hp motocross bike, with coaching, a rental bike and protective gear, and no driving licence at all.

BMX Riding
If you can ride a BMX, you already know the basics that also matter in motocross: jumps, balance and coordination. Many BMX techniques therefore make it easier for you to get started. On a motocross bike, however, a few things are added that are new even to experienced BMX riders. The acceleration of around 40 hp and the modern suspension change how you take off, land and carve through the corner.
A competition motocross bike weighs around 100 kg and has plenty of torque. That puts it in a completely different league from a BMX without an engine. It is precisely this difference that makes it so appealing: you use the body awareness you have from BMX and learn to transfer it to a heavier, more powerful bike. Braking works differently too: you operate the front brake with your right hand and the rear brake with your right foot.

Because the MX-Academy uses real competition bikes, riding technique is everything. Coaching is therefore compulsory for all newcomers, including seasoned BMX riders. First there is an introduction to the theory, in which experienced pros explain everything in a relaxed setting. Then you get to know the motorcycle on the track and put what you have learned into practice step by step. Only when the foundation is right do you move on to faster sections.
The protective gear is provided, and compared with BMX riding it is much more heavy-duty: the motorcycle is bigger and you are travelling faster. Boots, chest protector, helmet, goggles, knee guards and gloves are available from children's sizes to XXL. You bring long trousers, sturdy shoes and the urge to try something new. No driving licence is needed, because riding takes place on private grounds.
The course suits every level, whether BMX and motocross are new territory for you or you already have experience. With 5 levels of difficulty and various tracks, different training focuses are open to you. A large proportion of participants have never ridden motocross before, and yet even complete beginners are riding laps of the track on their own after one day.
You take plenty away for your BMX riding: clean timing on take-off, a stable position in the air and more feel in the corners. In motocross, however, jumping only starts once the basic standing technique is in place. This way each level builds on the previous one, and you only tackle obstacles that match your ability.

4 hrs track time incl. breaks and instruction
A course day lasts 6–8 hours in total, including registration, gear and theory. The hours shown are the available track time including the breaks and instruction you need, not pure time in the saddle: motocross is anaerobic, breaks are part of it – and that is exactly when the coaches give you more tips and tricks. For teenagers and adults, each of these days is the recommended taster course, because it gives you a real impression of the sport and shows your progress. Kids, teenagers, women and adults all pay the same; the only difference is whether you rent or bring your own gear. With rental: a Honda bike in your size, protective gear, coaching and basic course costs. With your own gear: coaching, track hire and basic course – provided you can already ride on your own, otherwise extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50) is added.
