Motocross Training

Is this right for you?

Yes, if …

  • you can already ride and want to work specifically on your technique
  • you want to master corners, jumps, ruts or sand more safely
  • you are coming with your own bike or want to add rental gear
  • you don't want to pick up wrong movement patterns in the first place

A better fit …

Motocross riding technique: basic techniques are the foundation

Every advanced technique in motocross is based on the basic techniques. You can compare it to building a house: the more solid the foundation, the higher you can build on it. That is why every motocross training session at the MX-Academy starts with basic posture, balance and clean use of the controls before corners, jumps and more speed are added. The coaches build up the techniques in the right order so that each step sits on the one before.

Anyone who picks up wrong movement patterns at the start later needs a lot of time and discipline to get rid of them again. It is more efficient to learn the right technique from the ground up, without detours. In training, the rule is therefore: quality counts more than quantity. You never get faster with force, but through more precise timing and better balance. The higher the speed, the more precisely every movement has to fit from the basic posture.

MX training in groups: weakness analysis for every rider

In MX training, i.e. motocross training in a group, the coaches divide everyone into small groups by level and look closely at every rider to see where the weaknesses lie. After that, each rider trains individually on the points that bring the most. Beginners are just as welcome as advanced riders and professionals. There are separate groups for children, and suitable small and light bikes are also ready for smaller women.

You can train with your own bike or rent a bike and protective gear in addition. The day course costs €195 (CHF 180), non-binding. With your own gear, this rate is intended for riders who can already handle their bike on their own; if you still lack this confidence, you add extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50). If you bring a 2-stroke, you need a noise insert for noise reasons; the MX-Academy can have one made for any model, and it is fitted in about a minute.

What you practise in motocross training

Which techniques come up on a training day depends on your level and your group. On the various tracks of the site, all areas of motocross can be practised, and the coaches choose the exercises to match your level. These topics are part of the programme:

Jumps, sand or ruts are among the advanced techniques that cannot be learnt in a single day. You get the necessary input and then keep practising them yourself. Anyone who wants to make regular progress without running the risk of training in the wrong things will find the right team training sessions in the MX-Academy Motocross team. For everyone else, the next motocross training in the calendar is the easiest way to stay on top of the new input.

  • Basic techniques: balance, basic posture, controls
  • Cornering technique on the inside and outside, in ruts and with lean angle
  • Jumping technique systematically, from the small jump to the double
  • Drifting and power slides as in flat track
  • Riding in sand with its own technique
  • Timing and precision at higher speed

Motocross training for beginners and advanced riders from Frankfurt, Nuremberg and Cologne

By car it takes you about 3 hrs 45 min from Frankfurt (351 km), about 4 hrs from Nuremberg (376 km), about 5 hrs 20 min from Cologne (514 km) and about 5 hrs 40 min from Düsseldorf (550 km), each calculated without traffic. In every case your destination is the MX-Academy shop (Hauptstrasse 8, Schlatt TG): after registration and the theory session, everyone heads to the track together from there.

With such a long journey, motocross training is only worthwhile as a full day. Saturday with 4 hours of track time including breaks and instruction suits best; if you like, you can arrive the day before and start well rested. For the whole day including registration, theory and gear, allow 6 to 8 hours. You can find the dates in the motocross events calendar, where you can also sign up straight away.
