Kids Motocross and Mini Motocross

Is this right for you?

Yes, if …

  • your child is at least 4 years old and wants to try motocross for the first time
  • you own neither a kids' bike nor protective gear
  • a coach should be there until throttle and brake are under control
  • you are planning a whole day with the journey from Germany

Kids motocross taster course: the first hour on the bike

The kids motocross taster course is the smallest way into the sport: 1 hr of track time, with breaks and instruction already included. It only takes place every other Wednesday. The price includes the Honda kids' bike, protective gear, coaching by a professional coach, plus the basic course and track hire. According to the MX-Academy, this hour is best suited to children aged 4 to 6 – after that, little ones are often tired and can hardly concentrate any more.

If your child is older than 6, the MX-Academy recommends more track time: 3.5 hrs on Wednesday or 4 hrs on Saturday. That also counts as a taster course, just with enough time to see real progress. Including registration, theory and fitting the gear, the whole course day lasts 6 to 8 hours. Because motocross is very demanding, riding and breaks alternate constantly; during the breaks, your child gets new tips.

Kids motocross lessons: how your child learns to ride

At the start, a coach stays very close to your child. Until throttle and brake are firmly under control, an experienced professional rides alongside and helps when things get tricky. Surprisingly often, this doesn't take long: many children soon ride the kids' circuit without help. Practice takes place on a separate kids' and beginners' track, one of four tracks at the training facility, which is listed in the NASAK of Swiss Olympics.

  • Pulling away and applying the throttle smoothly
  • Braking and cornering
  • Seating position and where to look
  • In the day course, first small jumps and rollers
  • Later, using the clutch on a kids' bike with gears

Mini motocross: more than fun on two wheels

At the MX-Academy, motorbike riding for kids means mini motocross off-road, supervised by professionals. The sport demands fitness and coordination at the same time. Children train their balance, discipline and stamina, and they learn to listen, because every exercise begins with an explanation. That is why the MX-Academy calls kids motocross a school of life from an early age. Girls are just as welcome as boys – many of them love the sport.

For children's birthday parties, school classes or youth groups of up to 30 children, there are dedicated group events; price on request. If you would like to give a course day as a present, order a motocross gift voucher. It is only available online, arrives straight away as a PDF in your inbox and can be redeemed for two years. That way, the first course day becomes a surprise, for example as a birthday present.

Kids motocross near you? Travelling from Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate and NRW

Many people search for “kids motocross near me”. To be honest, Schlatt TG is mainly close for families from southern Baden-Württemberg. From Freiburg, allow around 1 hr 40 min, from Stuttgart around 2 hrs. Every course day starts at the MX-Academy Shop, Hauptstrasse 8, in Schlatt TG.

Motocross training for kids after the first course

If your child has caught the bug on their first motocross day, more course days follow. For regular training, there is the MX-Academy Motocross club with its own kids' group on its own track. There, children only move up to the next, more difficult track once they have the necessary skills. From around age 12, they move seamlessly into Youth motocross, with the same supervision and more speed.

If you have your own kids' bike, the course day costs €163 (CHF 150) on Wednesday and €195 (CHF 180) on Saturday. This price only applies to children who can already ride on their own. If that doesn't work yet, extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50) is added. Anyone riding at the MX-Academy for the first time always takes part in the coaching, as it is compulsory for first-time participants. All prices are non-binding and subject to change.

A course day lasts 6–8 hours in total, including registration, gear and theory. The hours shown are the available track time including the breaks and instruction you need, not pure time in the saddle: motocross is anaerobic, breaks are part of it – and that is exactly when the coaches give you more tips and tricks. For teenagers and adults, each of these days is the recommended taster course, because it gives you a real impression of the sport and shows your progress. Kids, teenagers, women and adults all pay the same; the only difference is whether you rent or bring your own gear. With rental: a Honda bike in your size, protective gear, coaching and basic course costs. With your own gear: coaching, track hire and basic course – provided you can already ride on your own, otherwise extra coaching for €54 (CHF 50) is added.
